Volunteer Day at the Library
Saturday, May 18, 2019
To promote greater diversity of native plants and animals, beautify Pritchard Park, and create a healthier ecosystem for visitors to enjoy, the Explore More Team is asking for volunteers to help uproot invasive exotic plants.
The first volunteer day will be devoted to hand-pulling smaller plants and seedlings, such as Japanese honeysuckle, English ivy, and microstegium (aka Japanese stiltgrass). People will work in teams, with one crew leader who will help identify target species. Volunteer gardeners can enjoy free coffee, water, snacks, and the knowledge that their hard work is helping the park.
Please bring sturdy shoes, long pants, cap or hat, work gloves, sunscreen, and your favorite weeding tool. We’ll have a few extra weeding tools for use, as well. We’ll meet outside the library entrance promptly at 10am, break into groups, and tackle different sections of the park. Come join the fun!
