On Monday, September 21, 2020, at 10:46 a.m., members of the Carrboro Fire Rescue Department responded to the 500 Block of Jones Ferry Rd for a report of an apartment fire.
Responding fire crews arrived within two minutes and found a three story apartment building with light smoke and the resident of the apartment was attempting to extinguish the fire. Fire crews escorted the resident from the apartment and confirmed the fire was extinguished, removed smoke from the apartment and had not extended to any void spaces. The fire was contained to the living room area, but the apartment suffered smoke and fire damage. Initial damage estimates are approximately $25,000.
The resident of the apartment was transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation and his pet was transported for medical evaluation as well. There were no firefighter injuries due to the fire. The apartment was deemed uninhabitable and the Town’s code compliance division will be notified for follow-up. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. Carrboro received assistance from New Hope, and Chapel Hill Fire Departments.
