Carrboro This Week

Cobb Street Wall Raising

Affordable Housing Coming to Cobb Street in Carrboro

Friday, April 16, was BRIGHT DAY for new affordable housing in Carrboro! Thanks to Carrboro Town Council (left to right) Members Damon Seils, Susan Romaine, Barbara Foushee (Mayor Pro Tem) and Randee Haven-O'Donnell for volunteering alongside many hardworking community members including Quinton Harper of the Town's Affordable Housing Advisory Committee and future homebuyers on this Habitat for Humanity project.

The Carrboro Town Council granted $100,000 from its Affordable Housing Special Revenue Fund in support of the construction of four new units (two duplexes) on Cobb Street in the Northside neighborhood. These homes will be energy-efficient and affordable to households earning between 30-80% of the area median income.  The two ground-floor units will be built ADA-compliant.

The project is a culmination of a collaboration between the Compass group, Northside Neighborhood Initiative, including the Marian Cheek Jackson Center and Self Help Ventures Fund, Habitat for Humanity, and the Town of Carrboro.

Square - 2021 Joint Cleanup

The 2nd Annual Joint Creek Cleanup Ends on April 17

The Towns of Carrboro and Chapel Hill are inviting residents and businesses to help clean our urban streams this spring.

So far, 60 residents in Chapel Hill and Carrboro have removed over 1,500 pounds of trash from our local watersheds! Join your neighbors and help us top 2,000 pounds.

Litter in a stream does not always start at the streambank, but it will end up there. If it is on the ground, chances are that it will end up in our local streams and creeks. By cleaning up trash around your neighborhood or business, you are helping protect our local waterways from pollution.

Learn more about the 2nd Annual Creek Cleanup at http://bit.ly/JointCleanup
