Media Contact: JD Freeman (919) 918-7427
Weather permitting, beginning Monday, March 6, 2017, The North Carolina Department of Transportation will close a portion of South Greensboro Street in Carrboro between Merritt Mill Road and Old Pittsboro Road to through traffic; access to residences and businesses adjoining the project will be maintained. The road closure is expected to be in place for 60 days. A SIGNED DETOUR ROUTE will be provided. Bus stops on Chapel Hill Transit’s J route will be detoured to W. Main Street and Jones Ferry Road.
Other sections of South Greensboro Street and Old Pittsboro Road will be open to local traffic to enable access to residences and businesses in the area.
Detailed information about the closing, changes to traffic patterns and Chapel Hill Transit alternative bus stops on the J Route can be found here.
The road closure is necessary to facilitate the ongoing project to replace an existing undersized storm drain pipe with a larger aluminum arch culvert under South Greensboro Street. By replacing the undersized pipe, the South Green development is able to proceed revitalizing a long-blighted property. The pipe replacement will also help reduce flooding on South Greensboro Street.
