Beginning January 2, Carrboro residents and other riders will no longer have to pay to ride Chapel Hill Transit buses. Along with fare-free rides, bus service has been improved through the addition of three new routes and four modified routes.
The new bus routes are the EU route (serving the Law School and School of Government), the HU Route (serving UNC Hospitals and Friday Center Park and Ride Lot), and the NU Route (offering direct service between campus and the P and PR parking areas).
Improved services include the A Route (now runs a 12-hour schedule rather than just peak hours), the M Shuttle (now serves Chapel Hill Public Library), the S Route (improved service to the NC 54 Park and Ride Lot), and the V Route (now serves the north side of the Friday Center). In addition, more buses are equipped with bike racks.
These transit improvements are jointly funded by the Town of Carrboro, the Town of Chapel Hill, and the University of North Carolina. Additional details about the new transit services are available at the Chapel Hill Transit website. (or click HERE!)
