The Carrboro Board of Aldermen approved the reading of a resolution on November 19, 2019 to change the governing body name to Carrboro Town Council. The Board of Aldermen held a public hearing on the matter at the November 12, 2019 board meeting. The name change is an effort to achieve gender neutrality. “We felt the time was right for this change, especially as we are in the process of making our Town Code gender neutral. It is also more inclusive, something Carrboro values,” said Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle. The change would go into effect December 3, 2019.
