Community Feedback Sessions Set For April 18th and 26th.
Carrboro is in the process of establishing a Stormwater Utility to provide dedicated funding for the Town’s stormwater program. Funding is needed so the Town can expand stormwater management efforts. These efforts are to better address environmental goals and state and federal requirements for healthy creeks and downstream receiving waters, including Jordan Lake. Another function of the Stomrwater Utility is to better deal with stormwater related concerns -- associated with flooding, drainage, and erosion issues faced by citizens. A study has been drafted to recommend a rate structure. The recommended new stormwater fees are based on the amount of impervious surface on a property, with fees being defined for residential and non-residential property. The study has been referred to the newly appointed Stormwater Advisory Commission for review. A community outreach campaign is planned for the spring to share the draft study and rate structure. The Town would like to hear community and gain feedback on this project. Drop in sessions at Town Hall will be April 18th and 26th in order to provide an opportunity for community input. A Public Hearing is being planned for later in the spring. Community members are invited to visit http://www.townofcarrboro.org/1138/Draft-Stormwater-Utility-Rate-Structure for more information.
