CARRBORO, NC -- Construction continues to progress on The 203 S. Greensboro Street Project in Carrboro.
Work Performed in the Last 30 Days:
- Mechanical, electrical, and plumbing work continues throughout the building.
- Ethernet/data cable is being installed on the west side.
- Lighting fixtures and exit lights are being installed on the west side, and doors are being installed throughout.
- Elevators have just been delivered.
- Fire sprinkler pipes are being installed in the parking deck.
Work Upcoming in the Next 30 Days:
- Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and sprinklers will continue throughout.
- Wall finishes, painting, and ceiling installation will continue.
- Elevators will be installed.
- Lighting fixtures will be installed in the parking deck.
- Waterproofing will be completed on the parking deck and terraces.
- Bioretention cells, designed to capture, treat, and reduce peak stormwater runoff, will be installed on the north side, along Roberson Street, and tied into the stormwater drainage system.
Utility Work and Traffic Impacts:
While some utility work has been completed, there is still a great deal of site work and utility work ongoing.
- AT&T and Google Fiber have finished their work, impacting several streets around the building.
- Dominion Energy has completed its work, which was primarily impacting E. Braxton Foushee Street.
- OWASA work is ongoing at several spots along E. Braxton Foushee Street and should finish in the next couple of weeks.
- Stormwater and drainage work is happening all around the building. Some of this work will occur within the construction fence and some in the street.
Completion of Project:
We look forward to welcoming everyone at the new public center in Carrboro that will be both a library and civic building. After construction is completed in late summer, it will take some time for services to move in and become operational. The grand opening date will be announced broadly when it is confirmed. This will be set in coordination between the Town of Carrboro and Orange County, following the completion of construction, and the move-in of furniture and library materials.
Background:
The $42 million development will be the future home of the Orange County Southern Branch Library. The facility will also provide a permanent home for the Orange County Skills Development Center; Carrboro Recreation, Parks and Cultural Resources Department; WCOM Radio; and performance/multipurpose uses. The 203 Project will provide opportunities for education, art, and community connection.
