In the spirit of community, events are being held this August across Carrboro and Chapel Hill to bring residents together – newcomers, students, and longtime residents.
National Night Out
Carrboro Police and Fire-Rescue will be joining a block party celebration for National Night Out at the Oakwood Community at 605 Oak Ave. in Carrboro from 4 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 2. Everyone is welcome to enjoy free food, games, music, and family fun.
National Night Out is a community-building campaign that promotes police-community partnerships and stronger community safety. This year, the Town of Carrboro is joining with the Town of Chapel Hill’s celebration. Police Chief Chris Atack said he plans to bring the event back to Carrboro Town Commons in 2023.

Good Neighbor Initiative
The Good Neighbor Initiative Door-to-Door Walk will take place on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 11-12 through the Northside, Pine Knolls and Cameron-McCauley neighborhoods of Chapel Hill and Carrboro. Volunteers welcome new student residents and provide useful information.
In addition to the neighborhood walk around welcome, every year there has been a neighborhood block party thrown at the Hargraves Community Center in the Northside neighborhood of Chapel Hill.
The Good Neighbor Initiative is a collaborative partnership among UNC-Chapel Hill, the towns of Chapel Hill and Carrboro, EmPowerment Inc., the Jackson Center, and other community partners. Learn more at https://offcampus.unc.edu/resource/the-good-neighbor-initiative/
