Mayors from cities and towns across the nation issued statements this week in response to recent executive actions on immigration by President Donald Trump, including Carrboro Mayor Lydia Lavelle: “Carrboro, North Carolina prides itself on being a diverse and inclusive community. We have many immigrant residents who contribute greatly to the spirit and fabric of our town. As town officials, we are committed to looking out for the safety of all of our residents, and we resolve to continue lawfully and compassionately doing so.” Mayor Lavelle is a member of Cities for Action, a coalition of over one hundred mayors and municipal leaders concerned about issues related to immigration.
